Selling a Digital Download

The situation

You sell something people download. A guide, a preset pack, a sample library, a template.

The price is the same for everyone, so this is a job for a checkout button.

Set it up

1. Make a page on your site that thanks the buyer and holds the download link. Leave it out of your menu.
2. Open Checkout Buttons and create a button at your price.
3. Put your thank you page address in the Success URL field.
4. Copy the snippet and paste it onto your sales page.

What the buyer does

They click your button, the payment page opens in a new tab, they pay, and a couple of seconds later they land on your thank you page with the download waiting.

About protecting the file

The thank you page is an ordinary web address. Anyone who has it can open it, paid or not. Somebody has to share it for that to become a problem.

For a low priced download that is usually a fair trade for how little setup it takes.

For something you cannot afford to give away, do not lean on the page by itself. Email the file when the payment shows in your dashboard, or have a developer build it properly.

Selling more than one thing

Create a button for each item, each with its own price and its own thank you page. One <script> line covers the whole page however many buttons sit on it.
